Solo trip to kedarnath can be done easily. One can test his endurance with this trek. Kedarnath trek involves lots of climbing and walking. Walking distance is around 18 Km. During the rainy season, cold increases and horses (and mules) also slip on the way. Rocks also cause obstruction and the authorities at sonprayag sometimes close the path during rains to avoid accidents. This trek is really hard during rainy season. I was shivering at kedarnath because i took two tshirts and a raincoat only. Buses from haridwar/rishikesh take ~350 INR to take you to Sonprayag. GMOU runs the buses from haridwar. Many other buses are available at rishikesh bus stand. GMOU buses only run at 5 and 7 AM from Haridwar and Sonprayag for onward and return journey so plan accordingly. After reaching sonprayag at evening, they charge 200 INR for a day stay at sonprayag or will charge 20-30 INR to take you to gaurikund on a jeep. At gaurikund, price is 300 INR for staying.
